PlayOnline Security Features Additional Information

Older news from Aug 10th 2009, but I just found this and its info that new players will need, or if some of us Veterans return and have to change our Credit Cards on file! Another nice preventative measure to stop RMT dead!

If you are a Visa customer, you can enroll in this service at the Verified By Visa(r) site: www.VerifiedByVisa.com

If you are a MasterCard customer, you can enroll in this service at the MasterCard SecureCode(r) site: www.SecureCode.com

All customers are now required to activate this service before registering a new account or making payment method changes to your current account using the PlayOnline viewer. However, since some credit cards are not eligible for this service, we ask that users that encounter this issue contact the Information Center for further assistance. Please be sure to check with your credit card company if you are not sure if this service is supported on your card.

If your card is eligible for this service, please be sure to register at the web site before you register for a new account or make payment method changes to a current account through the PlayOnline viewer.

If your card is not eligible for this service, we encourage you to contact the PlayOnline Information Center for further assistance.

* If your credit card is expiring and you do not have a 3-D secure compliant card, we ask that you wait until you receive your new card before contacting the Information Center.

So I decided to check my account to make sure my character was there to reactivate come Feb 1st, and of course it wasn't. POL asked that I reenter my CC info even if it hasn't changed, and of course I was hit with this 3-D Secure, and my CC I've used for years with FFXI is not supported. My bank does support this feature, but I guess my card being older isn't eligible.

Anyway, I'll be attempting to contact POL Support and my bank tomorrow and getting a card that is 3-D Secure compliant asap. At least I discovered this with time to resolve it I hope before Feb 1st, cause all hell would break lose had this happened to me on the day I was to return...hehe

Anyway, anyone planning to return, I'd advise you log in and check to see if your char is there under the reactivate ID section{you can back out if its there and not activate yet}, and if its not and you get a warning asking for updated CC info; chances are your card is not eligible. Better go get one that is, and start taking these same steps as I so you can play!

Well that was far less painful that I thought it would be, plus SE POL live-chat picked up immediately which is rare. Anyway after confirming my identity with them twice...rofl They updated my account and my character is now available to be resurrected, however I still don't have a 3-D Secure CC yet.

I called my bank and the lady I spoke with had no idea what I was talking about even though they are a registered member of this new service...hehe They're looking into it and plan to call me back, but I'm assuming that since Square-Enix are doing this with FFXI already, it'll definitely be a feature to have compatibility with; for FFXIV too.

I'd suggest looking into this if you have not already!

Just imagine if you were still playing hardcore and this happened out of nowhere in the middle of a HNM camp or dynamis.

That would suck, however they did say it wouldn't be an issue with a card already applied to an active account...so whew safe there!
