Subject: Antec 1200 PC Case!? Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:08 am
Should I get it? Been reading up on the 900 today as Newegg has it on sale, with instant $40 off, $20 mail in and free shipping for a total of $59.99, and after looking at it in depth I noticed the 900 Two and is far better features over the 900, but its $119.99 atm,and w/ free shipping too. Now granted this isn't entirely necessary that I know of so far, but all the reviews thus far point to massive amounts of cooling and airflow which is always good for a gaming PC.
The main reason I'm considering this case is because of the GTX 480 I'm planning to get later this year and the amount of heat it produces, so a very good airflow would be required.
Anyway, here are reviews of the two cases:
Antec 900
Antec 900 Two
The thing I greatly like about the 900 Two, is that there are holes already there for sleek cable management to help with airflow that the 900 is also capable of, but from other personal reviews I've watched...you have to drill those holes yourself, which I dunno if I have the tools to drill through steel. Its also just slighter larger too, and about a 3/4 wider than my case that would help even more with the huge heatsink I already have.
Decisions....decisions...

I would go with the 902. Its better looking, and even if you dont have a water cooler, you have the necessary holes (except the one on the mobo frame). There are more dust filters, and I think he said that there was tooless frames on the 902.
As a side note, he has an interesting accent. Seems like he has a bit of a problem with r's. He kinda says Rwodney Wendolds. lol

Hrm...damn myself for wanting really cool stuffs! The Antec 902 alone is already gonna cost me $130 with cable extensions and dividers, so was thinking might as well go all out and get the Antec 1200...maybe, which costs $160. Still deciding though, but here is a video review of it and others showing it off:
Its got all the snazzyness of the 902, but has more fans, 7 120mm and 1 200mm total if you install the two optional ones. Pretty damned impressive considering my current case, has only 2 120mm, and 3 60mm fans. Quite a bit of overkill I'd say, but cooling is very important when running hot components...hehe!

Just a warning though, the 1200 doesn't come with the optional fans included. You have to buy them separately.

Already have them, from a quad 120mm pack I bought a few months ago...hehe
Now just to decide if I really need a new case or not, and to drop this kind of crazy funds on one. My current case does a pretty good job of keeping my PC cool...I think, at least I've never had any overheating issues arise, but I will admit my GPU does get rather hot when I game for hrs on end, which is expected, but if this case would keep it cooler, that is always a plus!

I suppose one good reason I'd like to get a new case is so I can re-build my old PC, that's just sitting there {not collecting dust} and begging to be used. I could find a cheap wide-screen monitor and hook it up next to me and have a 2nd semi-high end PC to use in playing other games while I'm playing FFXI/FFXIV and to look things up on without having to tab out and stuff.

If it's not for a main gaming PC, get the cheaper one and stay away from 1200. It takes up a lot of space and is overkill unless you're putting a lot of high heat hardware in there.

No no, this would be to replace my main gaming PC, {the new one I just re-built} and my current case would then be refitted with my old guts!

What are ya running, and how are the temps for your GPU, and CPU? At idle my CPU is at around 31-37c and peaks between 52-56 while playing FFXI and other games. My GTX 275 temp is sitting at 37-45c currently with nothing but Firefox running.
I would definitely get it if these temps were to drop a good amount more!

My CPU and GPU are both overclocked, so it wouldn't be a good comparison. Besides, I don't really know any good temp measuring programs.

I have solved cooling probs by taking off the sides of my case, well one side hehe! I know it looks ugly, however Pc runs nice and cool, and I am the only one looking at the open side beside me anyways! Hubby has done the same with his too! Works really well :) In summer time when the air conditioner blows on them, they purr like a kitten and love that haha!

Very nice case. Just don't do what I did. Get items too big for your case and end up dropping fans to accommodate for them. I go through 2-3 external fans a year.

Yay me, I'm awesome...found and won an Antec 1200 from eBay for $97, $112.85 after shipping. Far better deal than the $170 from Newegg....and Antec still hasn't contacted me about the fans yet...so, guess I'll just deal with em being Blue!

Oh that guy is quick...already sent me tracking info through UPS, and insured the package for me too! Now I better order my cable extensions from Newegg so they get here around the same time, or I won't be able to hook it up...
Oh and does anyone know of a semi-cheap Power-Supply with two 6-pin connectors, so I can rebuilt my old PC again. Since I saved a ton of money on the case, I can afford the PS now!

Yup, very very quick shipping...my new case is sitting at our local UPS center as of yesterday evening, ready for delivery today! Now I just hope the extension cables I ordered from Newegg will show up today too, but I doubt it, as it took them day later to actually ship them from the time the case was already in transit!
Yay, got my case about 20min ago...its huge and in brand new, mint condition as described...woohoo!
Sadly I can't move my PC guts into it yet cause I don't have the dern extension cables yet...le sigh

Posted some of this over on MMORPG already since I've got a running thread on my PC build there as well:
Quote :
Took me around 2-3hours to transfer cases and hook it all up with the cables hidden as much as possible to increase air flow...I mean really this case has 7 ~ 120mm fans and 1 ~ 200mm fan....insane cooling! For instances my GTX 275 in the other case{see OP} was running at around 63-68 celcius while running FFXI, and now with this case and the fans on the low setting I'm sitting pretty at 47-51 celcius, thats an incredible drop in temperature! Even my CPU has dropped some too, from 54-55c, down to 42-44c. Granted I havn't yet tested this on a heavy~heavy load like Just Cause II or Singularity, but I'll get back to ya...maybe!
Anyway, check out my new case and wiring, which could be better, but I didn't wanna run to the store for more ties and mounts, so I delt with what I had:

That's a massive case.
But I'm considering a Corsair Obsidian 700D for my next build, which, I believe, is equally as big.
I wish I could have gotten the 1200. The 900 is nice and I was able to get it on sale but I'd still prefer to have the 1200. >_>
Know what ya mean, and so glad I ended up getting the 1200. Anyway, a quick check on eBay and there is an auction for a used one atm, {4mo in service} and still looks like its in perfect condition. Might as well watch it and see if ya can win it for cheap, especially since its used it should go for much less.
