As a gift for completing (finally) my BS, as well as a Christmas & birthday present... I get to dump my Dell 630i machine and upgrade!
Of course my current XPS is still operating just fine... in fact whatever glitch was going on with my GPU seems to be gone. But I'm a guy... and I need new toys. My 630i is gonna be 3 years old soon and while I have added more RAM and a better GPU... the upgrade bug has bitten me!
Here's my new baby... well... here's what it'll be built with soon enough...
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield I'm going with the i7 950 now, rather than wait for Sandybridge because from what I have read, the Sandybridge isn't going to offer anything meaningful in terms of performance compared to current quad-cores, especially since I have no intention of using Intel's integrated graphics...
EVGA 01G-P3-1373-AR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked EE 1GB I could keep the 460 I have now, but I'm gonna sell it as part of my 630i. Besides EVGA offers a 90 day up-sell program... and I know CES in January will see some new graphics cards. If not, I'll just trade in for a GTX 580 once I sell the 630i.
I have a DVD-R/RW drive I might use, or I might opt for a BD drive....
This should keep me satisfied for another 2-3 years.
Thoughts/comments/suggestions welcome...

very nices...
Definitely get yourself a 580, as many that still play FFXIV that now have one, are saying it easily runs at 16x AA flawlessly. I'm hoping to get one soon, but none are in stock at EVGA, where its the cheapest $499 + free shipping.

If EVGA is smart, they'll have a big production run of those coming soon... they do not want to miss out on the Christmas rush.
I'll just get this EVGA 460 to tide me over for a few weeks. Their trade-up program will give me every penny I spent on the 460 towards a purchase of a 580. And who knows? Maybe a 585 or 590/595 is being kept on the QT until CES...

Can't sleep... final piece of my computer puzzle (the CPU cooler) arrives tomorrow!
For the past week all the parts have been sitting in my closet... calling me... teasing me... tempting me....
Is this what a crack addict feels when he's detoxing?

Couldn't tell ya, as I've never done any drugs, however; yes the eagerness to build ones PC thats been missing that one vital part can be overwhelmingly intense...
